This page is to give an evaluation of the sources used in this wiki. The works are based into different groups.
Textbooks:
There were five textbooks used as cited material. 2008 World Prehistory: A Brief Introduction
2008 The Incas and Their Ancestors
2006 Exploring Prehistory: How Archaeology Reveals Our Past 2005 History of Life 2005 Physical Geology: Exploring the Earth
They were all published within the past four years. The information
provided by all of them were quite useful and can be regarded as authenitc.
Library books:
There were three books checked out from the UCF Library
2000The Settlement of the Americas: A New Prehistory
2000 On the Road of the Winds: An Archaeological History of the Pacific
1996 Humans at the End of the Ice Age: The Archaeology of the Plesitocene – Holocene Transition
I found these books to still be useful but I question some of the material as they may have become dated but
I still believe that when they were published they were up-to-date.
Lecture:
UCF ANT 3142 Old World History course lecture
This lecture was presented by Professor Wallace and until he had stated it, I never really though about the
fact that the water would have impeded the explorers just as much as the ice itself. His lecture made the
point quite obivious. Why would they have traveled the hundreds of miles with no fauna to follow? This, again.
made me realize the obivious.
ANT 3165 Articles:
Two articles from the class readings of South American Archaeology were used for this wiki.
1999The Search for the Earliest Americans
1997The Battle of Monte Verde
Both aritcles were informative and useful, though again I believe that they may be outdated.
Magazine & Online Articles:
Three articles were found on-line as well as one PhD disertation
2009 Last Ice Age colder than we thought.Cosmos Online 2007 Why We’re Still Arguing About the Pleistocene Occupation of the Americas. Evolutionary Anthropology
2003 Pacific Migration Arrested by Meltdown’s High Waters. Science Magazine
1991 The Antarctic ice sheet and environmental change: a three-dimensional modelling study. Ph.D. dissertation
These articles provided reference material and were from reputable science magazines. The PhD
disertation is the oldest article used in this report, though in my search I fould little about Antarctica.
As a matter of fact, I found very little information about the last glacial maximum in the southern
hemisphere.
Personal observation:
In my search for information on the possibility of the a 'South America" first (meaning that
South America being the first of the Americas to have a human set forth on it) there is little
to be found. I wonder if this is due to a narrow view, a bias against such an idea.
